The ornaments

The metal, oval-shaped ornaments, somewhat reminiscent of modern hoop earrings, are temple rings. Women attached them to bands placed on their temples. Several of these were worn at the level of the temporal bone. Wiggling the head made the jewellery clink. These ornaments were made of various metals: silver, bronze, pewter, and lead. The objects on display were cast in bronze and some were silver-plated. Temple rings were worn by the inhabitants of Ostrów Tumski at the turn of the 12th c. It is difficult to find their equivalents in contemporary jeweller’s shops. However, as a given fad is said to come back, temple rings might also be worn with pleasure.
