Leon Tarasewicz to jeden z najciekawszych malarzy europejskich debiutujących w latach 80. XX w. Urodzony i mieszkający do dziś na Białostocczyźnie, uczeń profesora Tadeusza Dominika, obecnie prowadzi pracownię malarską w warszawskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych. Po błyskotliwym debiucie, zauważony i doceniony przez krytykę, zapraszany był na wystawy indywidualne i zbiorowe w Europie Zachodniej i USA. Prezentował na nich intrygujące płótna i malował obrazy bezpośrednio na ścianach galerii i muzeów. W 2001 r., podczas Biennale w Wenecji, w Pawilonie Polskim pomalował podłogę. Dwa lata później jego instalacja malarska zdobiła kolumny poznańskiego Teatru Wielkiego.
Kompozycja Bez tytułu, namalowana w 1989 r., należy do zespołu prac z dominującym motywem świetlistych, pionowych rytmów. To niemalże abstrakcyjne płótno przy bliższym oglądzie przypomina płonący las. I ten właśnie trop interpretacyjny wydaje się bardziej znaczący w stosunku do twórczości malarskiej Leona Tarasewicza. Pejzaż, natura, ptaki, zmieniające się pory roku zawsze były inspiracją dla unikającego wielkich aglomeracji artysty. Ten typ przedstawienia zaintrygował kuratorów, krytykę i publiczność; w tych kompozycjach, zawieszonych pomiędzy realnością widzianego pejzażu a jego malarskim przetworzeniem, zauważyli ich siłę. Fascynowała ich także dynamika czystych kolorów, ich gwałtowna ekspresja i swoboda gestu widoczna w śladach swobodnie spływającej farby. Eksperymenty realizowane na coraz to większych formatach doprowadziły artystę do kreowania malarstwa na ścianach i specjalnie przygotowanej architekturze. Niekiedy były to działania ulotne, innym razem pozostające w tych miejscach na stałe.

Leon Tarasewicz is one of the most interesting European painters from the 1980s. Born in the Białystok area, where he continues to live, a student of professor Tadeusz Dominik, at present he leads a painting studio at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. After a brilliant debut, recognised and appreciated by critics, he was invited to solo and collective exhibitions in Western Europe and the USA. There he displayed intriguing paintings and painted directly on the walls of galleries and museums. In 2001, during the Biennale in Venice, he painted the floor in the Polish Pavilion. Two years later his painting-installation consisted in the decoration of the columns of the Poznań Wielki Theatre.
The Untitled composition of 1989 belongs to a set of works with the dominant motif of luminous vertical rhythms. When examined closely, this nearly abstract painting resembles a forest on fire. This avenue of interpretation seems more significant with respect to the painting of Leon Tarasewicz. Landscape, nature, birds, changing seasons of the year have always inspired the artist who shuns the urban context. This type of representation has intrigued curators, critics, and the general public. They discerned great power in those compositions, suspended between the reality of a perceived landscape and its rendition in painting. They were likewise fascinated by the dynamics of pure colours, their vehement expression and free gesture visible in the traces of freely dripping paint. Experiments with ever bigger sizes led the artist to painting directly on walls and specially prepared structures. Sometimes these were ephemeral projects, other times the end product remained in these places for good.
