Madonna Górków/Madonna of the Górka

Późnogotycka rzeźba Madonny z Dzieciątkiem została wykonana około 1520 r. Przypuszcza się, że jej fundatorem był Łukasz II Górka. Pierwotnie zdobiła ona narożnik miejskiej rezydencji tego szlacheckiego rodu. Stała ona u zbiegu ulic Wodnej i Klasztornej. Kierując się ze Starego Rynku do dawnej fary można było natknąć się na więcej kamiennych wizerunków świętych. Figura Matki Bożej z Dzieciątkiem stoi na sześciokątnej konsoli, którą od frontu dekoruje półpostać anioła, trzymającego przed sobą dwie ryby. Maria upozowana została w kontrapoście, podtrzymuje lewą dłonią Chrystusa posadowionego wysoko na jej ramieniu. Głowa Madonny przechyla się delikatnie w lewo, niejako spogląda przed siebie. The late gothic sculpture of the Madonna and Child was made ca. 1520. It is believed to have been funded by Łukasz II Górka. It originally adorned a corner of the city residence of this noble family. It stood at the intersection of Wodna and Klasztorna Streets. Heading from the Old Market Square to the former parish church, one could come across more stone images of saints. The statue of the Virgin and Child stands on a hexagonal console, its front decorated with a half-figure of an angel holding two fish in front of him. Mary is shown in contrapposto, supporting Christ seated high on her shoulder with her left hand. The Madonna’s head tilts gently to the left and she is looking ahead, as it were. Mary’s hip bends to the left, the tip of the shoe of her right foot is extended forward and facing outward. Can you reproduce the Madonna’s pose? Give it a try!
