Offer for Schools and Preschools

We invite you to the National Museum in Poznań, where we have prepared a rich educational offer!

We propose to school groups more than 40 topics of museum lessons or guided tours in the form of gallery walks, which present the Poznań collection in an attractive and multifaceted way (also on temporary exhibitions). Meetings for children and young people are enriched with a special educational and empirical dimension – contact with art is also various activities and fun, supporting the acquisition of new skills, and an opportunity for creative artistic tasks (for younger ones we propose an accompanying art workshop, for the older ones we dedicate thematic cards with tasks).

Museum lessons are a diversification of the school teaching program and the development of the artistic sense.

During classes, participants open up to contact with the work of art and learn together to look and analyze. A valuable element of the meetings is interaction, exchange of experiences and observations.

Children up to 5 years old – consultations for teachers.

  • E-Mail: edukacja@mnp.art.pl

Teachers of younger children (under 5 years old) can lead a museum lesson independently. To this end, we offer support in the form of individual and free consultations, after prior agreement with the Education Department employee. Thanks to them, the teacher gets to know the collections and the museum gallery space in terms of selected topics or can discuss topics of lessons proposed by him/her.

Visits to the Museum can be a very valuable experience for a child. They support their overall development, teach them behavior in public places and collaboration with peers, refine their language and artistic skills, while developing creative thinking. Each meeting in the gallery is concluded with a workshop.

The permanent offer includes topics of lessons intended for children from the age of 5.

The teacher choosing the classes can take advantage of the offer, deciding on a single subject or a whole series of meetings, the example order of which we propose below.

Museum lessons for students in grades 1-3 consist of two parts. The first part is a walk through the gallery, during which the children share their observations and feelings about the works of art they are viewing, and participate in activating games. In the second part – the workshop – the children have the opportunity to express themselves artistically by creating their own works. The aim of the meetings is to awaken the aesthetic sensitivity of the children and gradually introduce them to the museum’s collection.

The teacher can take advantage of the offer by choosing a single topic or a whole series of meetings, the example order of which is proposed below.

In the world of masterpieces

During the lesson we become familiar with the museum space, learn to recognize basic techniques and themes in painting such as: portrait, still life, landscape, optionally genre scene.

Museum menagerie

During the lesson we will traverse the museum in the footsteps of various animals – from domesticated ones to fantastic ones that inhabit the sphere of our imagination. We will see the works of masters who faced the difficult task of “catching” a galloping horse in the frame, or capturing the fluffiness of the fur in hard stone.

Colors

During the lesson the children enter the rich world of colors. The paintings they view will help them get acquainted with the topic of basic and derivative colors, feel the temperature of warm or cold colors. During the art workshop, works are created as a result of mixing colors.

Landscape

Nature is amazing – how often we realize this during the holidays, when we stop to admire mountain views, or the setting sun over the sea. Once there were no cameras, so the only way to visually capture the beauty was to sketch. At the meeting we will find out that there are so many ways to show nature, as many people in the world – because everyone sees the world differently. We will also see the turbulent waves of the sea, fanciful creations of artistic imagination, and even discover the beauty in ordinary views, close to the home tranquility.

Portrait

Bust, family portrait, self-portrait? Figure seen from profile or en face? With some attribute in hand? These concepts sound strange, but only until then. After the museum lesson, they will become part of our dictionary. We will get to know the various personalities of our gallery: sometimes funny, sometimes dignified and mysterious.

Sculpture

Time to look at the sculptures. We will focus on different techniques of creation and learn what tools the artists use. We will look at the basic materials, such as: plaster, wood and stone, and get acquainted with unfamiliar concepts, such as: bronze and texture. We will find out that expensive materials are not needed to make a sculpture, and sometimes all you need is what is at hand.

Stories of pictures

Can a picture tell a story? Where do artists draw inspiration from? Looking at the selected works from the collection, we will jointly decipher the contents contained in them. We will find out how often painters reach for different stories: fairy tales, legends and myths, creating our culture.

Matejko

It is often said that Matejko was a “great painter”, but what does it mean? The meeting around the works of Jan Matejko will be an opportunity to look at the master’s working methods and learn interesting anecdotes from his life. During the workshop, the children draw the assigned topic with pastels.

Legend of St. Nicholas

Who brings the presents in the end? Who was St. Nicholas really? The lessons unmask the facts and myths about the bishop from Myra. Colorful stories about the miraculous life of Nicholas will bring us closer to this special figure and allow us to understand the main message of the saint, which is the joy of sharing with others. Attention! Lessons are only held in December. Due to the popularity of the lessons, reservations are accepted from October 1.

The Education Department of the National Museum in Poznań has prepared various meetings for teachers: individual consultations as well as seminars and educational workshops.

The consultations are addressed to teachers of preschool groups. During the meetings with the Education Department staff, pedagogues can discuss the possibilities and ways of conducting museum lessons with the youngest viewers on their own.

The seminars and workshops, conducted jointly with specialists from the Teacher Training Center in Poznań, are held during the school year. During the lectures, theoretical knowledge about museum collections is presented in specific contexts. This knowledge is then used during workshops conducted in the Museum’s space or remotely with an expert from the Teacher Training Center. The aim of these activities is to enable teachers to have direct contact with art and then reflect on the possibility of translating their feelings and experiences into methodical work.

CONSULTATIONS FOR TEACHERS

Teachers of younger children (under 5 years old) can lead museum lessons independently. We offer support in the form of individual and free consultations, after prior arrangement with an employee of the Education Department. Thanks to them, the teacher gets acquainted with the collections and the museum gallery space in terms of selected topics or can discuss topics of lessons proposed by him/her.

SEMINAR for teachers

„THROUGH THE AGES WITH ART

Hospital Classes

„Museum Without Walls”

The educational activities of the National Museum in Poznań are also conducted outside the institution’s premises. The program of the cycle, addressed to school facilities operating at hospitals and sanatoria for children, is designed to bring art closer to patients whose temporary life situation prevents direct contact with it.

The meetings take place in hospital schools: no. 108 (hospital at ul. Krysiewicza), no.109 (Rehabilitation Center in Kiekrz), no. 110 (hospital at ul. Szpitalna), no. 111 (hospital at ul. 28 Czerwca 1956) Education and Training Center (ul. Szamarzewskiego 78/82). Thanks to them, children and young people have the opportunity to get to know interesting collections and take part in workshops that take place every day in museum spaces. The meetings are led by the employees of the National Museum in Poznań and its branches: the Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of the History of the City of Poznań, the Wielkopolska Military Museum, the Museum of Musical Instruments and the Museum of Applied Arts.

PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

We invite people with intellectual disabilities to take advantage of our educational offer – school, nursery, integration and therapy groups. For people with disabilities, a visit to the museum can be both a challenge – when they get to know its space and atmosphere and the rules of behaviour in it – and an opportunity to develop communication and social skills. Above all, however, this encounter with art is intended to be an impulse to stimulate cognitive abilities, creativity, artistic sensitivity and manual creativity.

Working Methods:

  • The classes are tailored to the needs of a particular group – when organizing open classes we are open to cooperation and suggestions from the visiting facilities, teachers or therapists.
  • The meeting is carried out taking into account the degree and type of disability.
  • Conversation and activities can be supported by didactic means which participants use on a daily basis in facilities (including alternative communication, e.g. pictograms).
  • The classes are based on conversation and interaction between participants, interspersed with various activating activities, including stimulating sensory perceptions (sight, touch, hearing, and even taste), using props (e.g. costumes, art tools), pantomime (e.g. changing into a character portrayed in a painting).
  • Depending on the expectations of therapists/teachers, the meeting can take place entirely in the gallery spaces or can be combined with art classes in a workshop room.

We offer group topics available in the PRESCHOOL AND SCHOOL chapter – most of the proposals provide the possibility (after prior consultation) to adapt them to the needs and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.

We accept lesson reservations by phone: +48 61 8568 136 from Monday to Friday between 8.00 – 15.30. When registering groups, please provide information about the degree and type of disability and any practical details (wheelchairs, alternative communication).
