Drewniana kolumna/The wood carved column

Oryginalnie zdobiona kolumna nie należy do dawnego elementu wyposażenia Ratusza, trafiła tutaj ok. roku 1910. Pierwotnie wspierała ona klatkę schodową kamienicy przy Starym Rynku 48. Powstała w drugiej połowie XVI w. w warsztacie poznańskim wyspecjalizowanym w snycerstwie, a zatem rzeźbieniu w drewnie. Jej dość nietypowy kapitel zdobią płaskorzeźbione wzory floralne, niżej motyw liści akantu. Od dołu trzon kolumny pokrywa typowy dla tego czasu ornament okuciowy, przypominający wyroby ślusarskie, a wyżej wzór przywodzący na myśl rybie łuski. The originally decorated column was not originally tied with the Town Hall; it made its way here ca. 1910. Initially, it supported the staircase of a tenement house at 48 Stary Rynek St. It was created in the second half of the 16th c. in a Poznań workshop specializing in woodcarving. Its rather unusual capital is decorated with bas-relief floral patterns, with an acanthus leaf motif underneath. From below, the column’s shaft is covered with a ferrule ornament typical of the time, reminiscent of ironwork, and above, a pattern reminiscent of fish scales. At the top of the shaft are circular medallions. Do you notice the portraits in the centre? Who are the people depicted here?
